After what feels like the longest break in the history of my short running career, I FINALLY got back on the road and ran this morning… PAIN FREE! After running the Brooklyn Half Marathon when I should have been taking it easy, my knee had officially given out on me.
I went to the doctor, but did’t really feel like he was doing much for me, he suggested I tape my knee and go to physical therapy- none of which worked. After a few poor attempts to run the the weeks after the half and realizing I couldn’t make it more than 1/2 a mile with out feeling excruciating pain in my knee, I finally gave in. I waved the white flag and took the much needed BREAK that my body had needed the past few months.
30 very long days and 2 missed races later, here I am back running again! I woke up this morning feeling good. I felt like it was time and I had confidence that I had rested my body long enough. I took it easy and did a short 3 mile run to start at a very comfortable pace. I plan to ease back into running so to not re-injure myself again.
What is the longest you had to take off from running or your favorite activity?
