I guess we’re going to have to find out the answer to that question really soon. I’ve mentioned that I sometimes get excited and on an impulse do stupid things. Well I may have done it again…
Last week I decided to sign up for the NYC 5 Boro Bike Tour.
Do I own a bike? Why of course not! That would be crazy talk, I mean who signs up for a bike race when they actually own a bike?!
Okay, so no, I do not own a bike, but give me some credit here. I did plenty of research and found out that there are a number of bike rental options for this race!!
So maybe the bike tour is a week after my Nashville Half Marathon, I’m not scared!
So maybe the last time I was on a bike was in San Francisco about 6 years ago. I rented a bike for the day and road all over that town. Later that night I cried myself to sleep as I agonized in pain…
Regardless of how much pain I was in later that day, I remember having a lot of fun!
Other exciting things about this race?
Jimmy and I are doing it together! Yes, Jimmy the amazingly wonderful fiance who generally has no interest in running with said he would definitely do a bike tour with me! I mean, how could I pass that up?
My company agreed to reimburse anyone who signs up and participates in this race! Free race? Yes please!!
Seeing NYC on a bike? Sounds like a no brainer to me!
Lastly, I think it will be a great way to force myself into some cross training this spring while I train for my half marathon!
See, lots of wonderful reasons to do this race!! Maybe I don’t do stupid things after all, just really smart things disguised as stupid in the beginning.
Do you own a bike?
Have you ever done a bike race before?
Know of any CHEAP spin classes in NYC I can take?

Both pictures are WOW!
I used to own a bike, but its been 15 years since I rode one.
You are so inspiring, thankyou for sharing, Julie!
Thanks so much!!

OMG I’m kinda jealous. I’ve been heading about these events and wish cincy had one! You’re gonna have a blast, plus it feels like you accomplish so much because you cover so many miles.
Tack on some training wheels and hit the road!
this is such a great way to explore a city, I did a bike tour in college through europe, it was less of a tour and more of an intense trip but I loved it
I keep telling my hubby that I want to sign up for a Duathlon for June, but as I only have a mountain bike, I would be needing a different bike. He thinks I am crazy. yup. possibly.
Fun! Good for you for taking that step out of your comfort zone. I’m sure you wont regret it one bit! That’s also so great that your fiance is doing it with you. What a great experience to share together
Have a great day, girl!
Ahhh, so exciting! I thought about doing Five Borough, but I was only going to do it if my aunt signed up, too. (She’s done it three or four times.) I’ll be interested in hearing what you find out in terms of cheap spinning classes … because I have no idea.
I fully support you in this craziness! Love the impulsivity! AND the expression, “It’s like riding a bike,” is there to assure you that even if you’re out of practice, you’ll be just fine on the bike! You got this!
how amazing is this!!
When i first started reading blogs, I read about a lady who did this tour – you are so lucky to live in that amazinggggggggggg place. accch!
I don’t own a bike, or even know how to bike..so yes, I’m going to enjoy experiencing this through you
Love it!!! I am so bad on a bike!! But the race sounds awesome!!! Great decision!
That sounds like a fun way to explore! I won’t ride a bike because I got hit by a car on one, but if I did I would totally do this. Good luck!
