I Did Something Kind of Silly

So, sometimes I do dumb things… Remember when I told you that I was going to do the NYRR 9+1 program so that in 2014 I can run in the NYC Marathon?  Well, I signed up and then got really excited and then signed up for 3 races right off the bat!ING NYC Marathon 2012

While, I’m so excited to have this chance to run in the NYC Marathon, I also really hate the idea of having 9 races hanging over my head for an entire year.  So, I decided that I should sign up for as many races as I could right away so that the pressure is off.  I also decided that I should save my money for these 9 races since the cost will most certainly add up quickly.  I signed up for the first 3 races that I had free in my schedule.IMG_4530

It’s actually not that bad, they are short 3-4 mile long races, but I just didn’t really read much about the races when I signed up.

For one, remember I’ve mentioned that I actually live in Long Island, not NYC?  Well one of the races is in Brooklyn……. Trucking all the way to Brooklyn to run 3 miles, is not exactly ideal…

Secondly, the other race is in Washington Heights, where is Washington Heights you ask????  Really, Really far away, farther than I would like to travel to once again run another 3 miles…

Thirdly, the last race I signed up for is on Super Bowl Sunday and I have to throw a football before I run?  uh, what?!?  There is a reason I do sports like running, gymnastics, rock climbing, snowboarding… Can you see a theme?  None of these involve anything to do with any kind of balls.  Not only do I hate football, I’m not even sure I’ve ever attempted to throw one or would even care to…

Fourthly, I was itching to run a half marathon, since I didn’t get into the NYC Half I decided hey, why not just sign up for another half marathon, not part of the 9+1 program, because you know… You have endless amounts of money to spend.NYCR_CentralPark_Marathons_WEB_420x175_MAIN

So, since I paid for these races I’m going to do them anyway and I’m going to complain about all the way to the finish line! :)  Enjoy.

  1. That awesome! I love that you have so many races and distances to choose from! Travel to a 3miler is kind of brutal though. But It will so be worth it when you are running NYC!

  2. Is that the Gridiron 4-miler?! I’m doing that one! My reregistration for Dash to the Finish Line 5-K (which was canceled because of Sandy) transferred to that race. :)

  5. Haha! Julie, you crack me up. Though I know it’s inconvenient for you, you have to know that you’re doing such great things for yourself! You’re saying “yes” to life, something I’ve been more conscious of lately.
I know you’re going to kill those 3-4 milers, and I can’t wait to read about them afterwards! Good luck girlie, and way to stick your neck out there! Have a great Thursday!!
