After our crazy adventure in the Ragnar Relay Race, Jenna and I needed to take a few days for some quality RnR. We booked a room at the Double Tree Hilton in Key West. Can I just say that this hotel screams RnR all over it. When we first arrived, we still had a few hours until check in so the Hotel staff graciously stored our luggage for us so that we could enjoy the day without worry about them. We ate some breakfast and then headed straight for the pool.
Once we got there, I immediately noticed the two massage beds that were poolside. Jenna and I looked at each other and had one of those moments where you didn’t need to speak you just knew what the other person was thinking. We signed up for a massage around 2pm. I told the masseuse to focus on my soar legs because I just ran a really long race. It was probably one of the best massages of my life.
As you can see, we had a little visitor who also felt he needed some RnR.
After laying by the pool and getting some amazing massages, we decided a cocktail was definitely in order…
By the time we were done with these it was time to check in. My favorite part about the DoubleTree Hilton? Warm cookies at check in!
After inhaling these cookies Jenna and I freshened up and then took the free shuttle down to Mallory Square to catch the sunset. Mallory Square was adorable, lined with little shops and street performers. After getting some coffee we spent a little time walking around before finding a nice spot on the pier. I guess I don’t have to tell you how beautiful the sunset was…
After that we went in search of dinner. Jenna and I were dying for some pasta so we went to La Trattoria after reading some rave reviews about this place. My dinner was amazing! I had Gnocchi in a gorgonzola cream sauce. Jenna wasn’t too thrilled with hers, but regardless it was a nice dinner with good company.
The next day we headed down to the beach and spent the majority of the morning there soaking up some rays by the ocean.
We headed back to the hotel for some lunch by the pool and then went for an afternoon run.
Our original plans were to head out on the town that night, but after dinner we kind of found ourselves in bed watching the Bachelor unable to get up. Jenna was a little disappointed that we didn’t go out at all while in Key West. I didn’t really care too much (If you’re a regular here, you probably know by now that I left my crazy partying days behind me a few years ago). I also took advantage of the extra sleep and got up for a run along the water at Sunrise the next day.Probably one of the most beautiful runs of my life… I also decided to make it up to Jenna (for missing our night out on the town) by running all the way to Starbucks (about 5 miles from our hotel), taking the shuttle back and brining her an ice cold coffee to wake up to.
She was thrilled. We sat on our balcony drinking coffee and chatting away before we came to the sad realization that our short vacation was over… I definitely could have stayed here forever.
